Thanks to our Leadership, we have a lot of Pikangikum plans and news coming in 2026. Watch this space for more!
We are excited to announce that we are in the process of building a new fire hall in Pikangikum which will be a much needed base of operations for the community and the members of Pikangikum Fire Rescue.
This new building will house and protect a lot of the Fire Dept. equipment needed to provide the services we do, to protect and support our community. We expect completion of this project for the fall of 2026.
Pikangikum is a remote fly in community surrounded by water and in the winter it freezes. Members of Pikangikum Fire Rescue and the community will be attending Ice Rescue training which is aligned with NFPA 1006.
This much needed training will help us respond to incidents in and around water during the winter times We expect completion of this project for the fall of 2026.
Pikangikum Fire Dept will be delivering a community-based Red Cross training series in First Aid, CPR, First Responder, and EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) to strengthen readiness and ensure a capable response to medical emergencies within and around the community. Some Fire Dept & community members already hold certifications and have been actively assisting. They will now pursue Instructor certification to support long-term continuity, local capacity, and self-sufficiency.
Our Pikangikum Leadership are excited to announce that we will be reviewing and improving our Fire Department capacity through governance, leadership, training, standards and support by working with others and important partners.
We will be focusing on the three pillars or lines of defense model and enhancing capacity through a summary review of all Fire Department activities and ensuring that we have self-sufficiency and capacity in Pikangikum, by Pikangikum.
